The Charity of Hope Scholarship Opportunity is part of the One Wall. One Cause youth leadership movement, a program that brings our community back to where it all began – the handball courts of the YMCA. Through partnerships with Hamilton public and Catholic school boards, sixteen students are selected to participate in a leadership and handball training program that builds confidence, discipline, and mentorship skills. As the students grow, they become leaders who help teach and inspire younger youth in the community, creating a powerful cycle of youth empowering youth. At the Handball for Hope signature event, students who complete the program are celebrated in front of community leaders and supporters and awarded life-changing scholarships, including one $10,000 Charity of Hope scholarship and several additional $2,500 scholarships. What began 26 years ago as a simple act of kindness on the YMCA handball courts has now come full circle, transforming sport into leadership, leadership into opportunity, and opportunity into real impact for youth in our city.
Join the YMCA Youth Leadership Program designed for high school and university students eager to learn the fundamentals of one wall handball. Participants will train twice a week for one hour, developing not only their athletic skills but also leadership abilities and confidence. This program encourages youth to introduce handball to their peers, fostering community engagement and teamwork. As a bonus, the YMCA covers a three-month membership to support your participation.
